Bridge

Overview

Size: 40 x 40 x 1,7 cm
Year: 2024
Technique: Oil on canvas

I love painting mountains. It’s so effortless, calm, and the mountains are easily adaptable.

Maybe that’s why I chose to paint the nature from Jan van Eyck’s Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. It’s this tiny piece in the background with a meandering river. I imagined it to be this calm sanctuary in the middle of a bustling city. People going by, even over it, maybe not paying much attention to it. So, I wanted to give the nature a chance to shine. I removed all manmade structures except the bridge and the entrance to the city. Perhaps these two worlds could live together in peace.
